  • How should I measure my progress?
    The best way to measure your progress is by how you feel. At your first session we'll ask you questions about your fitness activity, food intake and stress levels. We'll conduct some simple tests to determine your balance, flexibility, muscular strength, general body coordination and stamina. Throughout your entire program we'll track improvements in the whole you-both mental and physical. We're concerned about how you feel; your energy levels; your stamina; your self esteem and your life. The longer you follow The Sequoia System the stronger you become mentally and physically.     Fresh Start! takes your existing health and fitness program and only makes it better. Physical activity is only a small but important part of our three step approach. If you already belong to a health club we'll review and update your current physical activity plan. Then, we'll add a Healthy LifePLan, personalized nutrition and stress reduction modules integrating all of them into your complete Fresh Start solution.   • How long will it take before I start to feel better?
    Our clients start to feel better right a way. Once we combine the right amounts of physical activity, healthy eating and stress reduction a synergistic effect takes place in your body and mind. Together physical activity, nutrition and stress reduction have a powerful effect on your brain and body chemistry helping to improve mood, promote sleep better, increase energy and help you feel more at ease with yourself.   • Why do I keep getting bored with fitness?
    You keep getting bored with fitness because fitness is boring. Thinking of fitness as only going to the gym and sweating while you lift weights means you have missed the fun and enjoyable side of fitness. Only a very few highly disciplined people are able to maintain a regular fitness program and most of them are on the US Olympic team. We keep you interested by challenging both your body and your mind. Fresh Start makes it fun by removing boring exercise routines and long stints on the treadmill. Instead we provide a wide variety of healthy activities that are both challenging and fun. You'll stay engaged by learning new activities, meeting new people and challenging yourself. We put a whole new meaning to the phrase -get in and get sweaty-. Play is something most adults have forgotten but not at Sequoia Health.

  • How much time do I need to devote to myself each week?
    The amount of time you spend on yourself each week is totally up to you. We suggest 3 hours a week as a good starting point. Time spent today is an investment you are making in yourself for a healthier tomorrow. In your Healthy Life Plan we'll make specific health and fitness recommendations. These recommendations are your goal set. They are based on your ideal along with your current health and fitness status. The more time you can devote the faster you'll accomplish your goals and see positive healthy changes. But only you can decide what is best for you. We are here to support your decision and assist you at your own pace.

  • What is available for me to do on my own?
    Even though you have a team of health and fitness professionals motivating and educating you, Fresh Start! requires your dedication and time commitment. You will want to follow your Healthy LifePlan when you are at home or away.

  • Describe my first 30 days using Fresh Start!.
    Your first appointment is an hour long interview and assessment with one of our health and fitness professionals. During that time you'll get to talk about your goals, health history, previous successes and failures, food and dietary intake, stress levels, anything and everything you feel is important for us to know about your health and fitness. We'll check your current fitness status with a few simple tests for balance, strength flexibility, and stamina. From your interview it is important that three things happen; we get to know you as a person; we get a clear picture of your current health and fitness status; and we understand the goals that are important to you as well as how you want to look and feel in the first 6 months. Within a week of your initial assessment, we create and send you your Healthy LifePlan (HLP). The HLP is your 6 month health and fitness roadmap providing a working outline of everything we'll do together and you'll do on your own. Once you've had a chance to review and approve your HLP, you'll start implementing your plan by enrolling in the various activities, classes and workshops as outlined in the HLP.

    Most of our clients don't feel the need to take a break because they have made Fresh Start! a regular part of their daily lives. Continuing when you go on vacation or a business trip is easy because your program is mobile. A few clients find it necessary to take a break because they can't keep the original commitment they made to themselves. In this case we encourage them to modify their program or take a break to give themselves some breathing room.   • Why do you use the Functional Approach to fitness training?
